Mohegan Sun Casino Sues Ron Meyer for More Than $2.7 million

Mohegan Sun Casino is suing a former Hollywood executive for millions of dollars in debts.

Ron Meyer, who was the co-founder of Creative Artists Agency in the 1970s, is said to have lost $5 million at the casino in a single day.

The 79-year-old signed a line of credit for $6 million in August 2015, according to a lawsuit that has been filed in Connecticut.

Meyer used that line to gamble around two years later but lost millions of dollars in a single session. The checks that he wrote to cover the gambling debts then bounced.

Mohegan Sun Casino claims Meyer still owes the casino $2,782,500. The former Hollywood boss, who was in charge at Universal Studios for 25 years, initially met the terms of a repayment plan but was then unable to follow them.

Brian E. Spears, Meyer’s lawyer, has filed a motion to have the case struck. He argued that it is against Connecticut law to extend credit for gambling purposes as Mohegan Sun Casino did.

He said that the state has an “ancient and deep-rooted ban on lending money to gamblers”.

Meyer’s CV

  • Born in Los Angeles in 1944
  • Set up Creative Artists Agency with friends
  • Joined Universal Studios (formerly MCA) as president
  • Enjoyed the longest studio reign in Hollywood history
  • Awarded the Motion Picture Showmanship Award from the Publicists Guild of America
  • Received the Producers Guild of America Milestone Award

Meyer has long had a reputation for enjoying gambling with high stakes.

Indeed, a report by the Daily Mail that was published back in 2020 claimed that he was a particular fan of craps and had spent more than $100 million playing dice games.
